Class 500 (Locobase 14326)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 53, pp. 63+. Works numbers were 44795-44796 in January 1917.

The NCC laid 75 lb/yard (37.5 kg/metre) rail over a profile that included maximum 5% grades and very tight 45 degree curves (radii of 130 feet/39.6 metres). This superheated radial tank had 9 1/2" (241 mm) piston valves and a trailing carrying axle that swung 8 1/2"(216 mm) to each side.

The design was one of the biggest of that wheel arrangement to be operated by any railroad. It suited the NCCC, which ran it for more than thirty years before its scrapping in 1951.
