Virginian 4-4-0 "American" Type Locomotives

Class EA (Locobase 7484)

Data from VGN 8 - 1951 Locomotive Diagrams supplied in May 2005 by Allen Stanley from his extensive collection.

These were the only 20th-Century Eight-wheelers operated by the VGN. They were delivered to the Tidewater Railway as 11-16 with 67" drivers, but later operated with 63" wheels. Baldwin's works numbers indicate that they were turned out individually: 100-101 were built in July 1907 (28558, 28568), 102-103 were consecutively built in December 1906 (29666-29667), and 104-105 were produced in January 1907 (30098 & 30101).

All but one was disposed of in the 1930s, 2 in 1934, 3 in 1937. For some reason 295 lasted into the 1950s.
