Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Articulated Locomotives

The Santa Fe built 10 2-10-10-2s out of existing 2-10-2 engine units and low-pressure engine units supplied by Baldwin. A distinctive ribbed firebox trailed the long boiler. Overall, the design was not successful at all and all of the locomotives were converted back to simple-expansion 2-20-2s in 1915 - 1918.

The Santa Fe had a total of sixty-five 2-6-6-2 Prairie Mallets. Of these, 58 were equipped with conventional rigid boilers and seven came with various versions of a flexible boiler. The 3320 (shown below) was one of the last group built in 1911 and featured a flexible boiler.
