Western Maryland Challengers

The Western Maryland Railway ordered a dozen 4-6-6-4s from the Baldwin Locomotive Works and received them during 1940 and 1941. These "Challengers" were designated Class M-2 and were given road numbers 1201 through 1212. They had four 22" x 32" cylinders, 69" drivers, a 250 psi boiler pressure, exerted 96,000 lbs of tractive effort and weighed 601,000 pounds.

On the Western Maryland, the 4-6-6-4s were used as helpers and never realized a main line status. All 12 of the WM "Challengers" were scrapped in 1953.
