Alamogordo & Sacramento Mountain 2-8-0 "Consolidation" Locomotives of the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 103 (Locobase 12340)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 22, p. 82. Works numbers were 16494 in February 1899 and 17107 in October .

Gene Connelly's Baldwin list shows this as a tank engine, but the specs strongly suggest either 1) it had a tender too because the operating conditions were so dry, or 2) it did not have a tank at all.

In any case, the 104 retained its number when the owner changed tot he El Paso & Northeastern, but when the EP & NE was changed to the El Paso & Southwestern, 104 was renumbered.

The pair was substantially rebuilt as straightforward Consolidations in 1904; see Locobase 8688.
