Alabama, Tennessee & Northern 2-8-0 "Consolidation" Locomotives of the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 201 (Locobase 13911)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 41, p. 126. Works number was 38477 in October 1912.

Suited to the 60-75 lb/yard (30-37.5 kg/metre) rail of this short line, the 201 was the only Baldwin Consolidation on the roster.

Class 202 (Locobase 14991)

Data from Roy V Wright (Ed.) 1922 Locomotive Cyclopedia of American Practice, Sixth Edition (New York: Simmons-Boardman Publishing Company, 1922), p. 123. See also the AT&N entry at Mississippi Rails, last accessed at on 9 March 2013. Works numbers were 5929 and 5984 in May 1920.

For some reason, Lima's price for the 202 was $24,273 while the 203 cost $27,635. The 202 would later bear road number #15 for the Frankfort & Cincinnati of Frankfort, Ky while the 203 served the Gulf Shipbuilding Corporation in Chickasaw, Ala in the early 1940s before being sold to the Masonite Corporation in Laurel, Miss as their 100 on 14 December 1942.

Locobase suspects that AT&N 203-205 (Lima 6239-6240 in January 1922 and 6958 in October 1925) were at least blood relatives, if not exact duplicates.
