As big as the G-4s were (see Locobase 7873), these Consolidations were bigger. Locobase 5427 shows the Wheeling & Lake Erie near-contemporary 2-8-0s that must have been built to the same design as close as the dimensions show them to be.
These were powerful Consolidations with a long-stroke cylinder layout. Later, 917 was fitted with Nicholson thermic syphons. The others had 4 arch tubes contributing 25.6 sq ft of area to the firebox.
