Western Railway of Alabama 2-8-0 "Consolidation" Locomotives of the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 120 (Locobase 7312)

Data from A & WP-WRA 10 - 1945 locomotive diagrams supplied in May 2005 by Allen Stanley from his extensive Raildata collection.

This single Consolidation appears to have been the only 2-8-0 ever to grace the West Point Route's system. The Western Railway of Alabama bought it from the B S sometime after its delivery as works #53278. On the WPR, this locomotive served until 1951. The Tennessee Coal Iron & Railroad Company operated several more of the same design; see Locobase 9195.

(The Birmingham Southern was set up in 1878 as a connection between Birmingham and Pratt City. Owned jointly at first by the L & N and the Southern Railway, the BS came under the control of the Tennessee Coal Iron & RR company, which in turn was bought by US Steel in 1906)
