Steam Locomotives Sunk in the Kaw River
Some sources including Iron Horses of the Santa Fe Trail by
E.D. Worley state that these three locomotives sunk in the Kaw River on July
13th, 1951. However, The Santa Fe Railway and the Lost Locomotives of
Topeka by J.J. Reisdorff and L.E. Stagner says that locomotives #3167
and #1035 were found in the bed of the Kaw River in late 1951 and 1956 and
were cut up for scrap. Of the three locomotives that went into the river
in the flood of July 1951, #4076 is the only one that has never been found.
