Central Pernambuco 4-6-0 Locomotives in Brazil

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 20 (Locobase 12158)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 20, p.18. (Thanks to Teemu Koivumaki for his 24 October 2021 email correcting the works numbers.) Works numbers were 14403-14404 in August 1895.

These were very similar to the Central of Brazil delivered by Baldwin in the same year (Locobase 12186). On the Pernambuco, their fuel was described as "coal, sometimes wood." Maximum grade rose at 1.8% and curve radii were as tight as 150 metres.
