Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 101 (Locobase 14522)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 54, p. 389 and Vol 78, pp. 304+. See also the description of the railway at the Los Andinos website at [], last accessed 1 September 2013. Works numbers 45107 in February 1917, 58955 in January 1926, and 59470 in September.

Locobase 14520 describes a superheated Prairie tank ordered by Andes Copper at the same time as these Consolidations. The two designs shared every dimension except those affected by the differences in driven axles and the use of a separate tender. The longer adhesion wheelbase spread the weight out and the slopeback tender carried more supplies. Like the 2-6-2T, these 2-8-0s had 9" (227 mm) piston valves.

One of the conditions for these engines was that it would operate at 12,000 feet (3,658 metres).
