Voronezh-Rostov 0-4-0 Locomotives in Russia

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 281 (Locobase 10343)

Data from "Exiles in Russia," The Locomotive Magazine, Vol VIII (20 June 1903), pp. 429.

This class of little tanks served several railways in Russia for decades. The two illustrated in the LM article were the pair that went to the Kursk, Kharkhov & Sebastopol Railway in 1879. As part of their transformation, they shed the cabbage-stack suitable for spark-arresting a wood fire and adopted a straight stack instead. The KKS livery was a bright green with black borders and vermillion lines.
