International & Great Northern 0-6-0 "Switcher" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class SW-55 (Locobase 11188)

Data from MP 8 -1936 Locomotive Diagrams supplied in May 2005 by Allen Stanley from his extensive Rail Data Exchange.

Although Locobase has not yet included many North American switchers, he couldn't resist the unusual lineaments of this home-built. In addition to the saddle tank, this design sported widely spaced axles the spacing which was 7 ft 8 in (2.34 m) between the first and second and a full 9 feet (2.74 m) between the second and third. Add to that inside valve gear, rounded dome over the firebox and thus separating the saddle tank from the cab and IGN had a distinctive little locomotive..
