Cambria & Indiana Mikados

The Cambria & Indiana Railroad, which was named for the two Pennsylvania counties it served, began as a lumber road. In 1904 it was incorporated as a common carrier railroad known as the Blacklick and Yellow Creek RR, a subsidiary of the Vinton Lumber Company. It interchanged with the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) at Rexis, Pennsylvania, which is just west of Vintondale and the Indiana - Cambria county border in southern Buffington Township. Soon after its construction, coal reserves were found in the area and the lumber road would begin transforming into a coal road. There are no surviving C&I 2-8-2 "Mikado" type locomotives.
