Boston & Maine 2-6-0 "Mogul" Type Locomotives

Class B-15 (Locobase 806)

Typical turn-of-the-century Mogul. 137 built for the B & M by Manchester (in Massachusetts) and Schenectady (Alco). These engines operated on secondary lines until diesels superseded them in the 1950s. Many were rebuilt with piston valves, cast tender trucks, steel cab, cross-compound airpump, and centered headlight. But they kept the inside valve gear.

Class B-15b/c - superheated (Locobase 6628)

Data from 1927 and 1947 Boston & Maine Description of Locomotives books supplied in May 2005 by Allen Stanley from his extensive collection.

In the late 'teens, the B & M began superheating their B-15s (described in Locobase 806). Unfortunately, none of the B&M books in Stanley's possession show a separate value for the superheater area.
