The EJ & E was a US Steel road that featured a lot of switchers and heavy, slow-speed locomotives for transfer service. This Mogul was one of the largest 2-6-0s and is a twin to the Newburgh & North Shore engine that was delivered in the same year. (Locobase 5398). Its raked tender identify it as a switcher, while the leading truck permitted over-the-road transfer work.
