The Kentucky Union road sold these Moguls to the Lexington & Eastern as part of a merger in 1894. The 12 went to the Louisiana & Arkansas as their #5 some time later.
When the L & E merged with the Louisville & Nashville in 1915, the two were grouped as class F-6. 459 (ex-10) was scrapped in 1926, but 460 was sold to the Carrollton & Worthville in September 1930.
The L & N diagrams show several variations of this basic design, some of which trailed slope-back tenders for switching duties. The specifications remained the same throughout and the only difference on the boiler was the siting of the bell between the two domes on a couple and ahead of both domes on most of the rest.
This was an unusual locomotive for the L & N in sporting a Belpaire firebox.
Identical to L & N F-6 engines (Locobase 9797) except for drivers that were 3" taller.
As shown in the 1927 book, this class seems to have operated mostly as switchers. The low drivers gave them agood tractive effort for such small locomotives.
This small Kentucky railroad was absorbed by the Louisville & Nashville in 1909. The 7 engines were supplied over an 8-year period.
