A trio of Richmond Moguls (work numbers 2158-2160) intended for freight work. The design had a the typical pinched first course swelling into full diameter just ahead of the second driven axle. The extended smokebox looked like an afterthought.
Three years after the FC & P took delivery of a trio of Virginia-made Moguls, they went back to the builder for two more (work numbers 2333-2334). Compared to the earlier locomotives, this duo had smaller boilers and fireboxes, but a little more weight on the drivers.
This pair of Moguls (works #12232-12233) went to the SB RR in the year it completed its main line from Columbia, SC to Savannah, Ga. When the Florida Central & Peninsular leased the railroad in 1893, it renumbered the pair as 216-217. The SAL later renumbered them 371-372. In July 1917, 371 was sold to Georgia Car & Locomotive for switching duties.
