Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 13, p. 83. Works number was 8058 in July 1886

Begun as a 38"-gauge railroad, but widened to standard gauge even as this little locomotive was ordred, the DBC & A was the first common-carrier railroad to serve the northern Michigan city of Alpena. It connected two Lake Huron towns 47 miles apart: Bay City, at the curve between Michigan's "thumb" and the (left) "mitten", and Alpena, near the top of the "index finger" in the mitten. Including its other lines, the total measured 83 miles, all of which was standard gauge by the end of 1886.

Falling into receivership in 1893, as many railroads did during that Panic year, the DBC & A reemerged as the Detroit & Mackinac Railway.
