Central Vermont Texas Type Locomotives

The Central Vermont Railroad took delivery in 1930 of ten (road numbers 700 through 709) of the lightest (419,000 lbs) "Texas" type locomotives built in North America. These 2-10-4s were built by the American Locomotive Company and were designated Class T-3a. They were designed to have 27" dia. x 32" stroke cylinders, 60" dia. drivers, a 250 psi boiler pressure, and a tractive effort of 76,800 pounds.

All ten were scrapped between 1954 and 1959.
