Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class D (Locobase 3735)

Data provided by Carlos Alberto Fern+ndez Priotti in Bryan Attewell ([link] Steam Locomotive simulator program (April 2000); Andres J Bilstein, "Las Locomotoras del Ferrocarril Provincial de Buenos Aires (segunda parte)", posted 22 febrero 2020 on the portal de trenes website at [link], last accessed 22 October 2022. Works numbers were 1694-1719 in 1924 and 1720 in 1925.

Unusual Argentine locomotive design in that it was supplied by a Swedish builder (Nydqvist och Holm, AB). Locobase doesn't know if the builder turned out many locomotives with Belpaire fireboxes, but this class was so equipped.

The largest single class of locomotives on the FCPBA, these sizable metre-gauge Pacifics hauled mixed-traffic trains for this 518-mile (834 km) railroad. Although they were delivered with oil-burning kits for the fireboxes, it was only ten years later that the railway began installing them. Their flexiblity, size, and power led to their use in all manner of service into the 1970s.
