Mike Quirk tells us that the Ipswich works had built six boilers for the A10 class, but had 3 left over (4-6). As suburban traffic grew in the Brisbane area, the railway chose to use the three boilers with new running gear and completed these three tanks. But as their tonnage rating came to only 60 tons. After 16-18 years of service, the emergency engines were scrapped in 1900 (74) and November 1902 (72-73).
