Class 8D15 tender - reboilered (Locobase 13763)

Data from the Queensland Railways Interest Group's website at [link], last accessed 21 January 2012.

As noted in Locobase 13761, two of the original five 8D15 Mikado tanks were converted in 1890 to 2-8-0s with tenders. This pair received the same new boiler in 1903 as was installed on the 3 tank engines. The grate was slightly larger, the boiler somewhat smaller, but weight changed little, increasing by only 6 cwt (672 lb). The table in QRIG indicates that the boiler pressure remained set at 130 psi, but Locobase doubts this as he also is skeptical that the tender capacity would have been reduced by 400 Imperial gallons during the upgrade.

Both tender engines were quite satisfactory and remained in service until 1938.
