Data from John Bourne, CE, Examples of steam, air, & gas engines of the most recent approved types (London: Longmans, Green & Co, 1878), p. 132-133
Bourne's information tells us that this six-coupled tank was produced in Ghent and that it was exhibited at the big exhibition in Paris in 1867.
Locobase unearthed an acerbic rejection by Ben Lomond in a letter to Engineering of 12 July 1867 (p. 31) of the Carels as a "well-turned-out speciment of locomotive work"in an early article on the locomotives of the 1867 Paris Exhibition. Lomond spluttered: "Had it been ordered by the Imperial Commission to be removed from the Champs de Mars, it would have been 'well turned out' indeed, for it is conspicuously the worst in workmanship and finish in the whole Exhibition."
