Data from "Old Belgian Locomotives," The Locomotive Magazine, Vol IX (19 September 1903)., p.172. St Leonard works numbers were 273-280.
Built for the Brussels-Namur traffic on the C du Lu's main line, this octet was bigger than what would be classed as Type 1 (see Locobase 10360), but had much smaller drivers. As delivered, the class had its steam squarely over the front coupled axle. The locomotives had frames of brick red and black lines, both the boiler and the splashers had bands of polished brass.
They coped with the stiff adverse grades for about 11 years, during which time the C du Lu was absorbed by the Belgian State system. Increasing train weights, however, overwhelmed their capacity and they were reassigned to working local traffic out of Antwerp.
