FCB 2-4-2 Locomotives in Bolivia

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 34/351 (Locobase 21080)

Data from FC de Bolivia 11 - 1918 Locomotive and Car Diagrams supplied in August 2022 by Allen Stanley from his extensive Railroad Data Exchange collection; and and Martin Coombs, Chilean steam locomotive list, Part 3-Metre Gauge (March 2022), downloaded from [link]), p. 1667.

Originally built by Baldwin to serve on the FC de Huanchaca's 2' 6" (762 mm) gauge in 1886 (Locobase 10794), this engine was widened by the FCB's Uyuni shops to run on the metre gauge. Taking advantage of the opportunity, the shops mounted a new boiler that had eight fewer tubes, had a boiler set 10 psi (0.70 bar) higher. The 351 also trailed a heavier tender.

Otherwise the same as the original, the 351 remained in service until at least 1939.
