Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class unknown (Locobase 15165)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 66, p. 327+. Works number was 52127 in August 1919.

In 1909, Mendes Lima was a purveyor of codfish in Pernambuco. This wood-burning plantation side tank was ordered about a decade later, either to support a plantation business or to work dockside.

Always on guard against starting fires with their wood-burning engines, Baldwin's customer requested a change described in a "Hereafter" note in the specs: "Ash pans to have netting under dampers and ash pan slide work to be omitted." Already specified was the spark-arresting, 9" (229 mm) Rushton Improved stack.
