Cia de Murrieta 0-6-2 Locomotives in Brazil

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Serra Azul (Locobase 11998)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 17, p. 116. Works number was 12228 in September 1891.

Locobase suspects this purchase by Ciade Murrieta intended to compare the adhesion-leading layout with the more conventional Mogul shown in Locobase 11997 in similar roles. The "Blue Mountain" had identical power dimensions as well as sharing the firebox heating surface area and the number and diameter of tubes in the boiler. The difference was a 13% decrease in tube heating surface area due to the tubes' shorter length. Unusually for this wheel arrangement, this engine had a separate tender and no water tanks on the frame.

Locobase has no information if either variant was put into series production.
