Alencar Lima & Company 2-4-0 Locomotives in Brazil

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 1 (Locobase 13860)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 39, p. 221. Works number was 37693 in April 1912.

Jeronimo Teixeira Alcenar Lima was an engineer and co-founder of the Compania Viacao Geral de Bahia (CVGB). This little wood-burning six-wheeler later operated on the E de F de Santa Amaro and the Viacao Ferra Federal do Leste Brasileiro, which renumbered it 7.

Class 2 (Locobase 13861)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 39, p. 223.. Works number was 37698 in April 1912.

Even though the 2 was ordered in the same month as the 1 described in Locobase 13680, it was noticeably bigger. It had larger cylinders, a bigger boiler and grate, taller cylinders on the same six-wheeler arrangement and burning wood as well.

The 2 became the 5 on the Viacao Ferra Federal do Leste Brasileiro in later years.
