Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 17 (Locobase 15181)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 66, pp. 361+. Works numbers were 55348-55349, 55353-55354 in April 1922.

These were very small wood-burning Moguls for the railway that linked Piaui's Therezina (or Teresina) with the Maranhao island port of Sao Luiz. The latter lay along the northern coast of Brazil between Fortaleza to the east and Belem to the west. The SLaT was an extension of the Sao Luiz a Caxias, whose 246 mile (396 km) line is described in Locobase 14204.
