2-6-0 Steam Locomotives in Brazil

Sao Paulo a Rio Grande

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Roxo de Rodrigues (Locobase 12702)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 27, p. 18. Works numbers were 23987-23998, 24017 in March 1903; 24047 in April.

Locobase 11787 shows the earlier batch of Moguls delivered to Brazil's Rio Grande in the 1880s. More than 20 years later, a new batch of very similar locomotives arrived, possibly to replace the earlier set. Almost all of the dimensions were unchanged, but the boiler now operated at 20% greater pressure.

Names included: Roxo de Rodrigues, Fabic Rego, Barose e Vasconcellos, Simces Correa, and Roberto Hilling.

Baldwin would add four larger Moguls two years later.

NB: see Locobase 13987 for an overview of the RG do Sul as described by Lionel Wiener in 1912.
