Vittoria a Minas 2-6-6-2 Locomotives in Brazil

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class A (Locobase 13457)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 40, p. 133. Works numbers were 39120-39121 in January 1913.

Before too long, this pair of metre-gauge wood-burning Mallets were sold to the Central do Brasil where they joined the 300, a superheated variant shown in Locobase 13973. Once the 303 arrived in 1919, the four locomotives were for years the most powerful freight engines on the C do B's metric-gauge lines.

Rendered redundant by the introduction of faster superheated steam in 1925, the class were reassigned to other segments that required pulling power more than speed. They operated well into the 1950s.
