EF Goyaz 2-6-6-2 Locomotives in Brazil

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 401 (Locobase 12743)

Data from Eduardo JosT de Jesus Coelho, Locomotivas articuladas: as gigantes da era do vapor no Brasil (Rio de Janeiro: Sociedade de Pesquisa para Memorial do Trem, 2003 ), p. 42. Works numbers were 61887 in 1935, 62201 in 1937, and 64136-64138 in 1940.

This was a relatively small simple articulated locomotive. Its cabbage stack suggests that it was a wood-burner. Although it had 6" (152 mm) piston valves, the Baldwin ad from which the data are taken does not indicate that it was superheated.

Its eight axles spread its weight over the 45-lb/yard (22.5 kg/m) rail.
