Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 65 (Locobase 13868)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 39, p 241. Works numbers were 37515-37518 in February 1912.

The RSM was a government-subsidized railway that resulted from the merger of two smaller railways in the state of Minas Gerais -- Estrada de Ferro Minas e Rio and Viatpo FTrrea Sapucaf -- in 1910. The quartet of wood-burning Consolidations responded to a specfication that described a maximum grade of 3% (158.4 ft/mile, to be exact) and curves as tight as 80 metres (262 ft) in radius.
