Rede de Viacao Cearense 2-8-2 Locomotives in Brazil

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 310 (Locobase 5034)

Data from catalogue illustration reprinted on narrowmind.railfan.net, supplemented by DeGolyer, Vol 79, pp. 238+. Works numbers were 61034-61036 in September 1929.

The photo shows a low-drivered, wood-burning cabbage-stack Mikado headed to a line that had 2 1/2% grades and curves with radii of 250 feet (76.2 metres) or 23 degrees. Steam was admitted to the cylinders through 8" (203 mm) piston valves. A note in the specifications states that the bottom of fire box was to be "rectilineal, so as to avoid angles in which impure properties of water accumulate."
