Class 401 (Locobase 12744)

Data from Locomotiva a vapor Schwartzkopff - 4-10-2" on the EFA Planta website at [link], last accessed 14 March 2021. Este material foi publicado no Centro-Oeste Textos n6 a partir de material enviado por Germano Pauli Mendes, Santos, SP. (That is: Germano Pauli Mendes sent information that was published in the Centro-Oeste Textos Number 6). Works numbers were 10817-10819 in 1938.

These were impressively scaled locomotives for the metre gauge. Mendes explained that EF de A deliberately asked for an engine that had standard-gauge dimensions. At the same time, the trio had to negotiate curve radii as tight as 90 metres. Both boiler and grate measured up to the large proportions called for; the boiler included a small combustion chamber and a Greshan feedwater heater.

All three engines had names of engineers. In order they were: Eng Socrates de Andrade, Eng. Balduino de Almeida, and Eng. Edmundo Busch Varela.
