Dom Pedro Segundo 4-4-0 Locomotives in Brazil

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 1 (Locobase 9679)

Data from DeGolyer, Volume 10, p 274. See also Baldwin Locomotive Works, Locomotives Built for the Central of Brazil, Record of Recent Construction Number 64 (Philadelphia: Burnham, Williams & Company, 1908) p 13. Works numbers were 5721-5722, 5724, and 5728 (road numbers 2, 1, 4, 3, respectively) in July 1881.

Baldwin's Record of Recent Construction summary of Dom Pedro Segundo orders notes that this quartet was joined in 1883 by three more Ameican-type locomotives (works numbers 6788, 6792, and 6797) with slightly smaller cylinder diameters. One of the seven engines came with a steel firebox; the others used copper fireboxes topped by a steel crown.
