Parana 4-6-0 Locomotives in Brazil

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 41 (Locobase 13664)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 34, p. 371 Works numbers were 34401-34402 in March 1910.

The specs show this pair of Ten-wheelers was bound for a narrow-gauge that was lightly built and somewhat curvy. Rail weight was 20 kg/metre (40 lb/yard), curves as tight as 80 metres (262 feet), and grades as steep as 3%. The steel firebox burned soft coal briquettes; see Locobase 11802 for a description of one form of this composite.
