Sudoeste da Bahia 4-6-2 Locomotives in Brazil

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 25 (Locobase 15439)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 79, p.218. Works numbers were 59611-59613 in October 1926.

Rolling on 42.23 lb/yard (21 kg/metre) rail, these wood-burning Pacifics pulled the SOe of Bahia's passenger trains. Endowed with a useful degree of superheat, the engines admitted this hotter steam to the cylinders through 8" (203 mm) piston valves. Locobase wonders if the class was operated at a lower boiler pressure than specified or if the engines' adhesion weight increased substantially in service.

They later operated on the EF de Nazareth, which was owned by the CV de Sudoeste de Bahia.
