Class 03 (Locobase 1584)

Data from Wikipedia [link], last accessed 27 June 2011.

Wikipedia notes that Henschel's production of the BDZ provided the power and reliability that the railway had been seeking. As wartime demands on Henschel suddenly increased, plans to mass-produce the design were curtailed at ten in addition to the two prototypes.

Originally designed as pure coal burners, the class was converted in 1958 to a mixed fuel oil-coal fuel system that "improved steam production and facilitated service, particularly in mountainous areas."
