Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class W1a (Locobase 15789)

Data from CP 1911-24 Locomotive Diagram supplied in August 2013 by Allen Stanley from his extensive Rail Data Exchange. CPR works numbers were 1967-1968 in 1914.

These were big switchers with quite sizable coal and water supplies in its tender. Superheat ratios and firebox area:evaporative heating surface area were both appropriately modest and extras like stokers, feed water heaters, and multiple throttles absent. They did have power reverse gear, however.

All three served for more than 40 years before being scrapped in January 1954, September 1955, and February 1957, respectively.
