Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 16, p. 44. Works numbers were 11005 and 11022 in June 1889; 11069, 11073-11076 in July.
The Alberta Railway & Coal Company bought all seven of these narrow-gauge Consolidations, but they were ticketed for the GF & C, a 134.7-mile line connecting Great Falls with Sweetgrass on the Canadian border. Not long after the septet was delivered, however, the GF&C was converted to standard gauge and these handy little 2-8-0s went several ways.
3 and 5 were sold almost immediately to the Utah Central in 1893.
Four locomotives -- 2 and 6-8 -- remained on the line when the Montana & Great Northern bought the GF & C. The M&GN was built in 1890 from Jennings, Mont. north along the Kootenay River to the international border where it would connect with a line that would give access to the coal fields in Fernie, BC. The whole length was about 100 miles (161 km).
Belcher Mountain Railway bought the 2 in 1906 while 7 travelled to the 85-mile (137 km) Eureka and Palisade of Nevada in 1910. The BMR connected the GN's Lambert Station on the Republic branch with the Belcher mine 10 miles (16 km) up the road.
4 was sold to the Puget Sound Mills & Timber Company
