Temiskaming & Northern Ontario 2-8-0 Locomotives in Canada

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 137 (Locobase 9245)

Data from Sessional Papers Volume XLIV, Part XII - First Session of the 13th Legislature of the Province of Ontario (1912), Sessional Paper 46:Tenth Annual Report of the Temiskaming & Northern Ontario Railway Commission, Ontario Government Railway, pp. 29-30.

The report of Thomas Ross, Master Mechanic and HL Rodgers, Draughtsman, noted that the CLC had an order for these Consolidations (works #1039-1042) for a 1912 delivery; they were produced in June 1912.

Although Ross's report shows the number, diameter, and length of the superheater flues, he does not give a separate figure for superheater area. Locobase's figure is therefore an estimate, based on the Canadian Pacific Consolidation class shown in Locobase 4516. The design did have healthy-sized 14" piston valves.

All four locomotives were retired as Ontario Northland engines in 1954-1955.
