Botwood 4-6-0 Locomotives in Canada

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 6 (Locobase 13572)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Vol 54, p. 1 and Vol 65, pp 360+. See also [link] and [link], both last accessed 21 December 2011. Works numbers were 45510 in April 1917 and 53252 in May 1920.

A husky Ten-wheeler for the Botwood built to provide some passenger power over a line that the specs indicate had 50-lb/yard (25-kg/metre) rail laid on soft ground. It was essentially identical to the Reid Newfoundland 4-6-0s that were procured from Baldwin beginning in 1900 (see Locobases 12231 and 3225.)

After serving four decades on the Botwood, neither lasted a year on the Grand Falls Central, which took over the Botwood in 1957.
