Arauco Company, Ltd 2-6-2 Locomotives in Chile

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Presidente Sanfuentes (Locobase 14519)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 54, p. 371. Works number was 45915 in 1917.

This side-tank Prairie was of the same size and weight as the long-running series of twelve 2-6-4Ts built by Robert Stephenson for the Arauco from 1889-1912 (Locobase 16024).

Given the identical power dimensions, grate area, and adhesion wheelbase, Locobase suspects this was a single variant built with a separate tender by a North American supplier. Its firebox's brick arch may also represented a change from the earlier 2-6-4Ts.
