Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 54, p. 377. Works number was 45544 in May 1917.
Baldwin supplied a Prairie tank design that was essentially identical to the US shortline Mocanaqua & Eastern engine delivered in 1905 (Locobase 12865) and even ran on the same gauge. Conversion to oil-burning led to a note in the specs that the firebox was to have "suitable openings in fire pan to insure ample steaming capacity at 10,000 feet (3,048 m) altitude." It also had to get around 15 degrees (radii of 383 feet/117 metres).
Chiquicamata was located in the Atacama Desert fifteen miles (24 km) north of Calama and about 231 km (143 miles) northeast of the port of Antofagasta.
