Anglo-Chilean Nitrate 2-6-2 Locomotives in Chile

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 13 (Locobase 21000)

Data from "Anglo-Chilian [sic] Nitrate & Railway Type 2-6-2", Locomotives Constructed by Kitson & Co. Limited (Leeds, UK: n.d); and Robert Stirling, "The Tocapilla Railway" (Paper 3198), Minutes of Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Volume 142 (3 April 1900) pp. 89-102 in Table II, p. 93. See also Martin Coombs,Chilean steam locomotive list, Part 2, Standard, 4' 6", 4' 2" and 3' 6" locos, 2018, p. 95 downloaded from [link], last accessed 8 April 2022. Works numbers were 3535-3536 in 1894; 3601 and 3613 in 1895; 4340 in 1905; 4839-4840, 4857-4859 in 1911.

Locobase treats all ten (more on that in a moment) of these engines as a single Kitson design for the ACN&RC. He bases his tentative compilation on (Road #14 was ordered twice, the second being a replacement for the first, which was lost at sea.). A guiding requirement for the Prairie tanks seems to have been a maximum 8 3/4 long ton axle loading.
