Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 50 (Locobase 15403)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Vol 78, pp. 312+. See also the description of the railway at the Los Andinos website at [link], last accessed 1 September 2013. Works numbers were 58376-58377, 58431 in May 1925 and 59471 in September 1926.

Although the operating conditions on the Andes Copper Mining Company's railway had not changed, traffic levels certainly had. So the ACMC ordered these much larger oil-burning Mikados. Even they had a short stroke, the 50s' cylinder volume increased by more than 35%. They were still fed their superheated steam through 10" (254 mm) piston valves.
