Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 33 (Locobase 6480)

Data from "Side Tank Locomotives-Metre Gauge-Type 2-8-4-Drawing No 2/R944" locomotive diagram from "Antofagasta (Chili) & Bolivia Rwy, Co, Ltd. History from [link] (accessed 10 April 2005). Although built by North British (works numbers were 23562-23581), this class was designed by engineers Hilary Hood and Eduardo Gerrard at Antofagasta's Mejillones shop.

After serving the FCAB for 35 years, most of the class were scrapped. Engine 34 survived and restoration began in 2001 with first steam in March 2004 in a brand new boiler. There was talk at the time of fitting the driving axles with roller bearings.
