These were the first of the Kitson-Meyer type of locomotive. The Meyer arrangement put two pivoting engine units under one boiler and firebox. Kitsons modified the design by placing the firebox between the engine units and moving the cylinders to the opposite ends (i.e., behind each of the engine units). Although never very numerous, the design served in several climes. On the ANC, the engines were rated at 2,707 long tons on the level and 705 tons up a 1% grade at 10 mph. Tufnell calculated this to correspond to 630 drawbar horsepower.
Anglo-Chilean added six more engines later - four in 1909 from Kitson and two in 1912 from Yorkshire Engine.

15 years after the ACN&R's FCTT introduced the Kitson-Meyer type of locomotive it returned for more. Dimensions were little changed from the earlier trio.

In between batches of the all-adhesion Kitson-Meyers it bought over 15 years, the ANC procured some of these leading-truck engines. Spreading the weight over two more axles may have allowed the larger boiler shown in the specifications.
